The Ispra group has been active since the onset of the genocide in Gaza. For more than a year we have convened every Thursday – synchronising with our colleagues in Brussels – to call for full respect of international law and to raise the alarm over the situation. The group also maintains regular contact with local partners who condemn the perceived inertia of European and Italian authorities and demand that international legal standards be upheld. In addition to meetings held on the JRC Ispra campus, we organise gatherings in external venues and many of us take part in local, regional and national initiatives throughout Italy.

Activities at the JRC Ispra campus

The Thursday gathering has become a reference point for colleagues who wish to obtain information, exchange ideas, or simply share their reflections on the respect for international law and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Our commitment to European values and human‑rights standards grows ever more urgent, as the escalating geopolitical tensions increasingly undermine the observance of international law. We therefore reaffirm the non‑negotiable red lines that must never be crossed when it comes to fundamental human rights.

We support the flotilla!

The Global Sumud Flotilla represented a significant milestone, drawing worldwide attention to the genocide in Gaza. Within our Thursday gatherings we have expressed symbolic support for the mission, recognising its role in highlighting the need for respect for international law and the protection of civilian populations.
Our members continue to keep the issue on the agenda, underlining the flotilla’s high symbolic value for the international community and its relevance to the broader discourse on violations of human‑rights.
We examined the illegal interception of the flotilla by the Israeli armed forces, prompting us to reaffirm the importance of upholding the European Values and principles including human rights, freedom of navigation, the right to peaceful protest, and the protection of civilians under international law.

Outreach beyond the JRC campus

The activities of eustaff4peace are not confined to the JRC premises. By organising meetings in external venues we are able to engage with local organisations and members of the public who share our concern for human rights and the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine, as well as their frustration with the perceived inertia of European and Italian institutions.
These gatherings have been welcomed and supported by the surrounding community, and many of our members have taken part in initiatives at the local, regional and national levels throughout Italy.
